#41: “Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me (And Other Concerns)” by Mindy Kaling

I can’t remember the last time I paid full price for a book. I gave up buying books about a year and a half ago, while I was still an employee of Barnes & Noble. The temptation was too much for my wallet — 35% off is not as good as it seems when you can get it for free at the library. I now only buy books used, after much deliberation and usually only when there’s a library or equally moral literary cause that will be directly benefiting from my purchase.
All that aside, this past weekend I found myself in a Hudson Books in New York’s Penn Station (it’s so strange to me that these bookstores only exist in points of departure) and I impulsively bought this gem. Actually, I went to the bookstore, read a chapter, put the book back, mulled over the decision while I ate a mediocre slice of pizza, and then went back to the bookstore to buy the book. But that’s impulsive for me.
The book cost some ridiculous amount. I think it was $573. But the five hours of an enjoyable reading experience both while I was waiting to board my train and on the journey home was worth it.
I love Mindy Kaling. And while I love Tina Fey more (sorry, Mindy), I have to say that this book was better than “Bossypants.” I only wish I hadn’t restrained my laughter as much as I did. It might have given me my own row on the train back home.
